Reliability Analysis on the IEEE Three Area Test System (RTS-96) with the Incorporation of Substation Outages
(SA: D-ITET)
Markus Schläpfer
Januar 2007
The project aimed to observe the consequences of substation failures on the reliability of IEEE three area test system 96 (RTS-96). Failure and maintenance rates required to describe the behavior of the substation are based on the analysis of a real substation within the 'Elektrizitätswerk der Stadt Zürich (EWZ)' net: substation Auwiesen. First of all, an analytical reliability calculation of the substation using the Markov model has been done. After this, a simulation approach, based on the Agent based modelling concept, has been chosen. This helped to compare the analytical parameters with the simulative one. The next step was to insert the substation as an agent into the already existing model of the RTS-96 built up by Markus Schläpfer. At last an evaluation of the entire model has been done, considering best and worse case reliability of the substation parameters. The aim was to see the effects of the reliability parameters of the substation on the RTS-96 model.
